What do archaeology and secular history have to say about the events described in the Old Testament?

Not a lot. Most of what you'll find are theories about what the authors of the Bible were actually describing. For example, there's a theory that the plagues of Egypt were the result of an Italian volcano erupting. For the most part though, they can't get specific because of the Bible's sparse time keeping. It isn't a history book, after all.
